A Thank You List

As the pies cool on the counter and I rest my feet from a long week in New York, I am spending a few minutes thinking about what writing related things I am thankful for this year.

First and foremost is my wonderful husband, John, who makes space in his life for my hobbies. Whether it was solo parenting for two weeks while I enjoyed a residency this spring, or walking up and down the driveway as I hash out my latest plots, John is my biggest supporter.

My mom is number two on the list. Aside from editing many of my blog posts, Mom co-parents all the kiddos, triages my sick plants, and is always available to keep things in perspective. She is the best neighbor ever.

The White Crane Philosophical Society-Literary Division meets once a month, and it is one of my favorite afternoons. I love being a part of a group of people that is willing to geek out over writing craft, and who delights in the work of their peers.

Hypatia In The Woods put on such a lovely residency for me. From the workshop space to the long days free for editing, and the recommendation to visit Crystal Cove, it was an amazing two week opportunity.

I took two research trips, one to Philadelphia and one to New York. I came away with a much better understanding of where my stories are going just by walking the grounds, seeing the flora and fauna, and spending time in old spaces. There were so many delightful and knowledgeable people who made these trips for me, especially the Betsy Ross interpreter who nerded out with me (mostly) in character for a solid half-hour.

The Sequim Friends of the Library Book Sale consistently provides me with inexpensive research materials. My shelves are filled with treasures far beyond their sticker price. I love flipping through books.

Squatchcon, for always giving me a platform to encourage non-professionals to join the writers club regardless of their goals. Write for life!

And finally, to all of you who read my Overthinkings and Hyperfocuses. Thank you for peeking into my brain now and then.

Happy Thanksgiving folks! May your blessings pile higher than the stacks of books on your to-read lists!
