Residency Day 4 and 5

I’m going to have to find a laundromat soon.

Pepper just kidnapped a newborn kitten from the side of the road and Asher is going to look for the rest of the litter.

I started a melatonin routine.

Yesterday I saw the brightest rainbow in the history of rainbows.

Dinner was a Trader Joe’s Turkey Pot pie and there was stuffing involved. I would eat again, but I’ll probably do something similar but fancied up with post Thanksgiving day leftovers.

I’m considering getting some goats.

And the writing: I’ve hit an interesting point in the book where all the stories are coming together. This means incorporating a lot of ends into the body of the work. Kind of like basket weaving? What this looks like in person is me taking a lot more time to check back in previous chapters to make sure things are aligning correctly, or overlapping in key places.

I did manage two chapters yesterday, then one full one today. I started on a second—playing with which characters are being showcased. I’m not sure I love the results and may flip things around tomorrow when I come back to it.

It’s odd having the end so near. For so long it felt like I was cresting the hill on this project, but then I just kept cresting. Suddenly I hurdling down toward the first draft finish line.

The biggest takeaway from today was that some chapters come easy and some chapters are like an entire puzzle of sky. Both have a place in my book.

My biggest surprise of the day: Realizing I have a jumping off point for a sequel if I so desire. I really thought this was a stand alone story up until a few hours ago.

Sorry for the short one today folks but I’m ready for bed after a “write till midnight” day yesterday.

Writing activity: Try a scene from different perspectives. Just one this time, but rewrite it from the POV of different characters in the room.
