Hyperfocus of the Week: Parenting (again)

Thursday marked my last first day of Daisies. With three girls, each eight years apart, I have been a Girl Scout mom since 2011. Linden has been longing to be a Scout ever since she realized she wasn’t official. Well, Thursday was the day. She signed in, made her own name tag, and enjoyed every minute of her first meeting.

It’s wild. I planned the meeting (and the rest of the year) over numerous hours, painted the Kaper Kan sticks and gathered the craft supplies to decorate the can, googled get to know you games, and printed off important documents for the leader handbook. I almost died cutting wood cookies for the name tags, but was not hit by the flying shards of metal and cherry wood. I don’t remember being sentimental when the other girls started Scouts, but I almost got a little foggy when Linden was signing in to her first meeting. For all the prep it went by quickly. I doubt she’ll remember specifics, but sometimes the fact that all the grown ups showed up is enough.

Violet and I have spent the weekend traveling to and around Oregon. Showing up for Asher’s first musical, Fiddler on the Roof. We spent nine hours in traffic yesterday, with a short break in Longview to pick up wood from Bob’s Big Boards. Seeing Asher light up and try not to break 4th wall when he saw us all was delightful (Cai, Pepper, Unico, Grammasquatch, and my sister and brother in law all came as well) and we made sure Asher got the biggest cheer during curtain call.

Tomorrow we get to wrap in V’s birthday with all of this (Including the birthday school presentation she has been putting off) and hope that traffic will be better going home.
